Beginners introduction to the View Camera - One Day One to One
This workshop is based at our studio in the Norfolk Broads, on location in the Broads and on the Norfolk coast and lasts approximately 8 hours. All equipment and film is supplied for use during the workshop.
During the day we will cover all aspects of using these cameras, starting in the studio we look at the various cameras available (field, monorail etc) and then all the other components you need to make up a camera (lens, film holders, focussing aids, dark cloths, tripods etc). Then we start the fun bit - how to focus and use the camera movements, this is the part of using a view camera that often confuses the beginner but don't worry we speed up the learning curve using a digital back in place of the film. Being able to see the effect of the camera movements straight away makes the whole process a lot quicker and once you get the hang of it we swop back to instant film and the full 5x4 format.
Then we look at the various film types available and how to load double dark slides, exposure metering and lens choice. The day goes at your pace and is very much hands on practical, once you have a good understanding of the camera we will go out and try your new skills in the field either in the Broads or on the coast depending on the weather. This lets us look at the practicalities of using these cameras for landscape photography and we will use instant 5x4 film at this stage so you can see the images straight away before finally shooting onto film. Then it's back to the studio for a final go over what we have learnt during the day. After the workshop you are welcome to contact me with any questions or advice on equipment. The film shot during the workshop will be sent to you once processed and we will also include a scanned version on CD.
Refreshments are supplied throughout the day and transport to the locations.
